One week in Ghana: Top 5 lessons

By Shelane Jorgenson 1. Canada can learn a lot from Ghanaian hospitality.  2. Public transportation (tro-tros) can be cheap, efficient AND and an adventure. 3. Like a baby, new foods need to be introduced at intervals. So far, I've mastered Jollof rice and chicken, 3/4 mastered red red, 1/2 mastered keykey and still staying clear of fufu. fufu Jollof rice and chicken Kenkey and fish Red red 4. Soccer can be a pretty exciting sport. I have never seen such passionate fans.  5. Cold showers are a blessing. -Shelane was a graduate occasional student at UG from University of Alberta, Canada.

Exciting Study Abroad Opportunities for University of Ghana Students!

The University of Ghana, through the International Programmes Office, is offering students of the University of Ghana the opportunity to go on a self-sponsored student exchange programme for one (1) semester or one (1) academic year. Students currently in level 200 have the opportunity to spend the first semester of their third year or one academic year, that is, level 300 in a host university abroad. Also, students in level 300 have the opportunity to spend their first semester of their final year (level 400) abroad and come back to finish the last semester at University of Ghana. The University of Ghana will provide the necessary documents needed to facilitate the student's visa application and application to the host university as well as any academic and pre-departure orientation. Welcome Dinner

The 4th of August 2013 was a fun evening for all Individual International Students. It was an evening full of food, drinks and interactions between them and the Dean of International Programmes, Professor Naa Adamafio. The Dean welcomed them all to the campus and listened to their concerns and ideas. The students were also given the opportunity to meet the Assistant Registrar, Daniel Hormeku and the entire staff of the office. The local dishes served were a hit! The students could not get enough. New friends were made and many ideas shared.... Some members of the IPO staff....

UG Wins Second Ghana Tertiary Debating Championship

Students from the University of Ghana have won both the Public Speaking and Debate segments of the 2nd Ghana Tertiary Debating Championship which was held under the theme “ In a Democracy, agreement isn’t essential, participation is .” Using the British parliamentary debating system, 73 participants from various universities took part in various rounds of debating in both Debate and Public Speaking. The Competition which was recorded at the Auditorium of the Centre for African Wetlands, will be telecast on GTV and VIASAT from September. The Championship hosted 28 teams across Africa from the University of Ghana, Islamic University College (Ghana), KNUST (Ghana), KNUSTFORD University College (Ghana), ISSER-K DC (Togo), University of the Gambia, University of Education Winneba, University of Johannesburg and University of Botswana. A MOST UNEXPECTED EXPERIENCE (REPOST)- AINSLEY BLATTEL

I wouldn’t consider myself an athlete.  When I was younger, I used to be somewhat athletic; I took lawn tennis lessons when I was 8, and then again in senior high when I wanted to worm my way out of taking the mandatory physical education class.  I was also a part of a hiking program in my community from the age of 10 to 18, but let’s be honest – hiking isn’t really a sport (it’s just walking with a fancy name).  Lastly, and probably most importantly, I played football (which my country has decided to rename “soccer” for some strange reason) from age 8 to 16, finally dropping out because my team decided to get serious about competing, and I just wasn’t into that.  So, as I entered into university, I left the world of sports for good and focused my time and energy on school and my other hobbies, most of which took place indoors and could in no way be called exercise.  I remained like this for three years at my university, and I would have continued to be athletic-less for many more ye

University of Ghana Ranked 15th Best in Africa (Repost)

The University of Ghana (UG) was ranked 15th in the 2012 ranking of Top 100 Universities and Colleges in Africa by the 4icu.org University Web Ranking. The University of Ghana and the University of Lagos were the only West African Univeristies in the top 20, which was dominated by South African and Egyptian Univeristies. According to 4icu.org, this ranking was based on web popularity using data from three different search engines: Google Page Rank, Alexan Traffic Rank and Majestic Seo Referring Domains. The Balme Library at the University of Ghana Other Ghanaian universities on the list are the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (24); University of Education, Winneba (43), Presbyterian University College (50 ); and the University of Cape Coast (90).
